MELODIE PROVENZANO

MELODIE PROVENZANO is inspired by objects, the way they look, and the emotions that they suggest. Each balanced still-life world that this artist builds, and then renders, all resonate with something true inside of her. Little toy apples suggest a traditional still-life, a miniature plaster head suggests classical art history, and the toy microphone is an instrument to project meaning and expression louder for everyone to hear. Her meticulous drawings and paintings create mock dramas that build narrative momentum when the audience assigns meaning to their relationships. Provenzano is represented by Lions Wier Gallery and has exhibited in numerous national group shows and art fairs. Her talent has been commissioned by Chanel, DKNY, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, and for various album covers. She was born in Hudson, NY and currently lives and works in New York.

KYUNG WOO HAN

Green house, furniture, paint, wire

KYUNG WOO HAN
"All the facts are relevant. People see what they want to see. One fact can be interpreted in several ways depend on our perceptions. In the opposite, two different facts can be looked the same. My work deals with perception and illusions. Everything we see or what we know is not absolute. I suggest various ways to perceive things with slightly different perspectives. The image that is captured in the video camera is very narrow and direct. The information that is given to us is limited. It is impossible to see beyond the rectangular frame. I’m using this weak point as a crucial system of my work."

Kyung Woo Han was born in Seoul Korea. He graduated from Seoul National University with a BFA in sculpture and has MFA in Film,Video and New Media at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

CASEY MCKEE

CASEY MCKEE
Casey McKee’s process is a combination of photography and painting. First creating the photograph, then printing it onto a surface by use of a photographic emulsion, McKee spends the majority of time working with oil paint to bring out the desired expression in his works. To experience the works in person is to realize the depth, layers and subtlety created with the fusion of oil paint with photographic emulsion. The final work is neither a photograph, nor a painting but something directly in between with qualities of both.

Born in Phoenix Arizona, Casey McKee has exhibited his work throughout much of the United States including: New York, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Chicago as well as across the Atlantic in London, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Berlin. In addition, the artist’s work has been exhibited and is collected by several major and private museums. heliumcowboy artspace is representing Case McKee since 2005. He participated at the Fountainhead residency programme Miami, USA in October 2010.

LUDMILA ARMATA

I went to the Galerie d'Este (Greene Ave, Montreal) about a month ago and saw downstairs this gigantic drawing of LUDMILA ARMATA, a black formation that looks like a large mouth screaming. It was very disturbing, I could almost hear it holler at me... it made me think of Edvard Munch's popular painting. It is not pictured up here, these are other works from the same artist. The kind of works you have to see in real to really grasp the feeling of it, so if you happen to be in Montreal, you should stop by the gallery. We met over there  art consultant Christopher Baenninger, a really nice man who gave us a great tour of the place...

LUDMILA ARMATA
Originally from Poland, the Canadian artist Ludmila Armata is renowned internationally for the purity of her engravings and the power of her images – simple and ambiguous forms that evoke the irresistible force of transformation in life. The artist is not interested in representing particular objects or anecdotes. Her prints express a process of transformation and not a result; this transformative process is visible in the finished works as much as in the creative process.” (Kim Boumansour, « Impression de corps en mouvement ». Ludmila Armata, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, 2003, P. 12-13-15-17-18.)

MARY IVERSON

"In MARY IVERSON's landscapes, primary-colored shipping containers are nestled within Hudson River school-influenced landscapes. It's a meeting of two worlds: the pastoral and the industrial. By situating such symbols of 20th-century global trade within lush, natural settings modeled after and appropriated from paintings of the late-19th century, Iverson points to the logical end of Manifest Destiny: our current post-globalization economy." (Victoria Gannon, Flavorpill, January 2010)
