ANDY ANDERSON

Here are a few pictures from 2 series by photographer ANDY ANDERSON. But this artist's portfolio is very impressive for his size but also for the quality of his work. On the hundreds of pictures he shows on his 2 websites, I could have picked them all to showcase here, as they are all beautiful and interesting. So ANDY ANDERSON's websites are definitely a must. Very inspiring.

“There are a lot of things I guess I could choose to do with my life. Photography is the path I choose, it’s my passion. It is the only thing that really feels right for me. I have asked my young children to seek their passion. Hopefully they will. As for me, making pictures quietly and unheralded is when I work the best.

Life is grand!”

(ANDY ANDERSON)

Andy spent his childhood in Orlando, Florida and entered the Air Force at twenty-one where he eventually discovered his passion for photography. Toward the end of his military career, he began in earnest to translate a hobby into a new career and eventually landed near Boise, Idaho where today he bases his commercial photography business – a business that takes him around the world. His landscapes and portraits have brought international acclaim and his images for clients Nike, Harley Davidson, Wachovia Bank and Outside Magazine have won numerous awards.

When Andy is not pursuing his passion of photography, he chooses to spend time with his children and wife along with two dogs at their home which is located outside of Boise in an area that looks very similar to some of his majestic western landscapes.

RAYK GOETZE

RAYK GOETZE is a German painter born in 1964.
He plays intelligently with colors, lights and shadows which affects our perception on things. I find his work to be disturbing, captivating and extremely interesting.

LAURA BALL /// BOUNDARY OF THE INTERIOR
EDUCATION
2004 MFA University of California, Berkeley
1995 BS University of California, Davis

STATEMENT
Within the subconscious, our faults and fears, shortcomings and struggles, manifest in corporeal form and appear in dreams either as monsters or as encounters that threaten our survival. We journey inward in these dreams, crossing the thresholds and boundaries of our mental landscape until we reach the core of the psyche. It is in this realm that life-saving and sustaining battles unfold, and the monsters we encounter change before us as the defnition of evil and good moves from black- and-white to shades of gray. The primal nature of our internal impulses and their dream-world expressions are given the freedom to unfold in a place where moral weight and the laws of physics are suspended, and acts of aggression, violence and sexuality serve as productive steps towards conquering our Jungian “shadow” and slaying the monsters that hold us back from a healthy progression in our daily lives.

"Our job is to record, each in his own way,
this world of light and shadow and time that
will never come again exactly as it is today."
Edward Abbey 1927-1989

Wow. Breathtaking and awe inspiring pictures by photographer MITCH DOBROWNER who has a very inspiring story line...

"Growing up on Long Island (Bethpage), NY – I felt lost in my late teens. Worried about my future direction in life, my father gave me an old Argus rangefinder to fool around with. Little did he realize what an important gesture that would turn out to be for me.

After doing some research and seeing the images of Minor White and Ansel Adams I quickly became addicted to photography.

To make a long story short, I left home at 21, quitting my job, leaving my friends and family to see the American Southwest for myself. In California I eventually met my wife, and together we had 3 children, and created our own design studio - and the tasks of running a business and raising a family took a priority to Photography. During that time I stopped taking pictures.

Years later, in early 2005, inspired by my wife, children and friends - I again picked up my cameras. Today I see myself on a passionate mission to make up for years of lost time - creating images that help evoke how I see our wonderful planet.

I feel that I owe much to the great photographers of the past, especially Ansel Adams, for their dedication to the craft and for inspiring me in my late teens. Though I have never met them, their inspiration helped me determine the course my life would take.

I live with my wife Wendy, our 2 sons Jason and Joshua - and dog Jimi and our new rotten cat Jax in Studio City California. Our daughter Asia, husband Brian and beautiful little Eliette live close by." (MITCH DOBROWNER)

METHODOLOGY
"Landscapes are living eco systems and environments. They have existed well before, and will hopefully be here way beyond the time we are here. When taking photographs, time and space seem hard for me to measure. Whenever I shoot a ‘quality’ image, I know it. At those moments things are quiet, seem simple again – and I obtain a respect and reverence for the world that is hard to communicate through words. For me these moments happen when the exterior environment and my interior world combine. Hopefully the images presented help communicate how I feel and what I see during those times.

All photographs presented (with the exception of the White Sands image) were shot between March 2005 and today (2010).

My work today is produced using a digital workflow. All the images presented are captured as latent images. Prints are produced using pigment inks on archival cotton rag paper."
