COE&WAITO
coe&waito is Alissa Coe and Carly Waito.
coe&wait creates quite objects which they hope can have a deep and lasting impact, encouraging an emotional response in the people who encounter them. Their designs celebrate the beauty inherent in their materials and are inspired by natural elements distilled to simple elegant forms, with occasional touches of whimsy and wonder.
Alissa and Carly's partnership began while studying Industrial Design at the Ontario College of Art and Design. They were brought together by a mutual desire to make beautiful and personal objects. They began to explore the processes of mold making and slip casting, which lead to a collaborative thesis project, bridging studio production and industrial design. coe&waito was launched after Alissa and Carly graduated in 2005.
From 2005-2009 coe&waito designed and produced a colection of ceramic pieces, including functional tabletop items, small sculptural objects, lighting and large scale installations. coe&waito has also designed and produced custom projects for other companies.
In the spring of 2009 coe&waito shifted focus away from studio production to work primarily as a design consultancy. While no longer producing their collection, they continue to produce special projects and custom work on a limited scale.
