Richard Avedon

Richard Avedon (1923-2004) is regarded as one of the most influential photographers of the 20th centuray. In addition to having made definitive portraits of the cultural and political leaders of the last fifty years, his work encompasses an unusually wide range of subjects including the Civil Rights movement, fashion, war protestors, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and working class men and women in the American West. Avedon was on the staff of Harper's Bazaar and Vogue magazines, and was the first staff photographer for the New Yorker magazine. He received a Master of Photography Award from the International Center of Photography and his work is included in the collections of the MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and countless additional museums and institutions.
