"Primates", Human is there no more considerate as individualities part of the stronger specie, but considerate as a basic animal, keeping his entire beauty, drama, symbiosis, or dissociation.
Human specie place at the same level of any other one.

"Ruben Brulat bought his first camera just two years ago. But in spite of this relatively late start, something just clicked. ‘I discovered my real passion, and I have not stopped since. I went out all night long, experimenting. I needed to do it – it quickly became something vital for me and I could not stop taking photographs.’

For Brulat, photography is about capturing humanity – as was evidenced by Immaculate, his series of images of a business area both by day and by night. ‘I want to understand why people groups and societies behave the way they do.

What shocked me with Immaculate was that this neighbourhood lived just for a system, and when at night there is no one to activate that system, it dies. There is absolutely no love, no happiness, no sadness. Just nothing.

I am fascinated by places where the beauty of human beings has gone.’

It makes sense then that Brulat is currently focusing his attentions on a new series of photographs for 2010 about the human in the environment, depicting ‘the vulnerability and the smallness of our species.’ In ten years time, he hopes to have brought both happiness and sadness to people via his work, but most of all hopes that not all his expectations will come to fruition.

‘Otherwise, in a way, it will be really boring!’ And that’s one adjective we would not associate with Brulat."

THE ARTIST IN HIS STUDIO

YOAKIM BÉLANGER was trained in graphic design at the University of Québec in Montréal. He then ascertained a great deal of experience in photography and multimedia, all of which have paved the path for his artistic endeavour. The creative skills and knowledge that he has gained from his past experience are quiet integral to his aesthetic process. However, the use of an oxidized steel, marked by history and time acts as the backbone of his art. Consequently, the work of art will come to life long before his paint brush meets the cold metal surface. From this point, it will only be a matter of time before the acrylic paints and inks are diluted and worked onto steel to reveal his artistic vision.

Wow. I am extremely inspired by IV SOLYAEV's works! Just wish I could read his website to understand it all. I'm not sure this is actual paint though. I don't know why but I have a feeling he makes these paintings on the computer... if anyone understands russian and can help me out here...

BILL DURGIN

I did talk about BILL DURGIN before. But here are some pictures of another series that I find very interesting.

BILL DURGIN /// NUDES AND STILL LIFE

Nudes and Still Lifes is a series of paired photographs that riff on classical painting genres. Nudes: bodies contorted and reshaped into uncanny figures. Still Lives: beautifully intricate arrangements of flora and fauna. Composed to unsettle the relative size of each subject by presenting them on a similar scale, the juxtapositions of the Nudes and the Still Lifes feed off each other, reverberating between ideas of attraction and abjection.

For the Nudes images, I work with dancers, models, and my own body to create sculptural shapes through contortion and perspective. Resisting traditional views of figuration, I move toward an image of the figure as a living sculpture of muscle, fat, and bone. After composing the Nudes image, I create a Still Life to pair it with, connecting the images through composition and location. I arrange flowers, fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat, delicately intertwined with wig hair traces of the figure to sculpt a Still Life that is both subtly grotesque and elegant.

The photographs are shot with Fuji Provia 4x5 transparency film, scanned, and presented as digital C-Prints on Kodak Endura paper. There is minimal postproduction retouching. I retouch mainly for color, tone, and occasional blemishes. All images are presented as they have been photographed.
