Schnabel’s Pajamas on EBay

Annie Leibovitz's 1995 portrait of Julian Schnabel

BROOKLYN—The Dumbo Arts Center is holding an auction on eBay to raise money for the institution, and the star lot is nothing less than pair of pajamas worn by artist Julian Schnabel, the blog C-Monster reports.

The lot description reads: "The dark blue, yellow-striped pajamas are a laundered, paint-splattered, lovingly mended and patched two-piece collectible, signed by the artist." The winning bidder also receives a photograph by Annie Leibovitz of Schnabel wearing the PJ's; the picture was included in Liebovitz's 2007 retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum and is valued at an estimated $7,500.

Commenting on the value of the pajamas themselves, Breda Kennedy, executive director of the center, said they were "priceless."

Bidding starts at $2,000 and closes on the night of February 21, when the center will host an auction party. (Artinfo)
