Wallace & Gromit

I have children, needless to say that I have watched Wallace and Gromit a thousand times. And I have to admit that it is one of my favorite animated movie. So this advertising campaign got to my attention. « Harvey Nichols is opening in Bristol – who better to advertise the new store than two of Bristol’s most famous sons, Wallace & Gromit?

The new poster campaign sees the characters (created by Bristol-based Aardman, of course) striking a pose with their usual attire swapped for more fashionable clobber. Wallace is seen above in a woollen Prince of Wales check grey two-piece suit by Paul Smith while Gromit wears a pair of Ray Ban wayfarer sunglasses and purple stripe silk scarf by Duchamp.

The campaign is created by DDB London with photography by Giles Revell.» (CR Blog)

Ryan McGuiness

«Ryan McGuiness has been accurately described as “A Warhol for the 21st Century” (Black Book) and “a leading pioneer of the new semiotics” (Vogue). Using iconic representations of logos and symbols, he weaves and spins them into something supremely elegant.»(Arkitip)

Sophie Jodoin

Sophie Jodoin is an artist who works and lives in Montreal. She is a politically engaged artist, her paintings often showing war victims, mostly children. There is a lot of repetition in her work and she only paints or draw in black and white. Sometimes red will be used to emphasis the wounds. Her website is well explained and well put and is definitely worth a look.

Meryl Smith

Great pieces from Meryl Smith. The first picture shows a project called « Tea Shirt » and the other pictures show a project called « excessory baggage » that was made for a group exhibition at The Honey Space, where 5 curators asked artists to create sculptures that fit the measurement requirements for international carry-on luggage.

Vanity Fair's Free MP3's

Vanity Fair's Hot Tracks blog gives away free MP3 songs from Adele, The Virgins, the Ting Tings, Tift Merritt and Max and the Marginalized. I gotta say I didn't know The Virgins and fell in love right away with their music! (the video up there is The Virgins's Rich Girls.)

Homeless shelter cart

Designers Barry Sheehan and Gregor Timlin have created this shelter cart for homeless people. At day, they can carry it around and fill it with their belongings and at night, they can fold it into a roofed bed. It is all made out of eco materials.

Flying turd

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been posting much these past weeks. My vacations are pretty much over so I should get back on track soon :)

I just read about the "Complex shit" story on Wooster Collective and I couldn't stop laughing. It's really funny! Here it is :

From AFP:

"GENEVA (AFP) — A giant inflatable dog turd by American artist Paul McCarthy blew away from an exhibition in the garden of a Swiss museum, bringing down a power line and breaking a greenhouse window before it landed again, the museum said Monday.

The art work, titled "Complex Shit", is the size of a house. The wind carried it 200 metres (yards) from the Paul Klee Centre in Berne before it fell back to Earth in the grounds of a children's home, said museum director Juri Steiner.

The inflatable turd broke the window at the children's home when it blew away on the night of July 31, Steiner said. The art work has a safety system which normally makes it deflate when there is a storm, but this did not work when it blew away.

Steiner said McCarthy had not yet been contacted and the museum was not sure if the piece would be put back on display."

À quoi ça sert l'amour?

I love this short animation!

Zhang Jie

«Zhang Jie’s self-portraits reflect a fascinating, very personal journey. They are much more than a simple reflection of the artist’s physical appearance like. Zhang describes the process of painting and something like “talking to myself” and an effort to be “true to myself” in her artistic exploration. Looking closely at the details in the artist-model’s paintings reveals that her works are in fact an exploration of the artist’s own self and inner psyche. 'Narcissism is the common attribute of my artwork… I want to anatomize myself with scissors in my hands, to analyze myself as a female artist, a woman and a human being,' proclaims Zhang Jie.»Art Scene China

Yang Moyin

«Yang Moyin’s unique style is wonderfully refreshing and experimental. Although she obtained her art degree in oil painting, she has always had a strong interest in the composition of ink paintings. This curiosity ignited a vast exploration of different media. After much experimentation, Yang has created a new artistic language, masterfully combining Chinese ink painting techniques with oil and acrylic methods and media on canvas. Her delicate, fluid brush strokes may resemble that of a traditional Chinese ink painting, but her technique is revolutionary and her subject matter is contemporary, abstract and mysterious, which highlights her originality as one of China’s most important emerging artists.» Art Scene China
